Philipp Buchen was born in Kirchen, Germany, in 1988. He studied at the University of Siegen, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (2013) and a Master of Science (2016) in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on fluid mechanics.

From 2016 to 2018, Philipp deepened his expertise in numerical fluid mechanics as a Project Engineer at ITB GmbH in Stuttgart, an engineering office specializing in flow simulations. He then worked as a CAE Engineer at IBS-Filtran GmbH in Morsbach (2018–2021), where he developed and optimized oil filter systems using advanced CFD methods for particle-laden flows.

In 2022, Philipp returned to academia as a Research Associate at TU Braunschweig, contributing to the LuFo project NANNY, which focused on improving numerical icing prediction for helicopter rotors.

Since early 2025, Philipp has been part of the TRACES Doctoral Network as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD Fellow, conducting research on in-flight icing of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) systems.
